Guillaume Gilles, Les Peyrouses Vin de France Rouge, 2020
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
A baby Cornas if ever there was one! From flatlands in Cornas with sand and clay soils covered in large rocks (called galet) this is deep, wild, and delicious wine.
Neal Rosenthal, the importer, calls the wine feral and exciting. Josh Raynolds wrote in Vinous that the wine is "Deep, glistening violet. Highly appealing, vaguely jammy black and blue fruit aromas pick up hints of woodsmoke, game and violet with aeration. Gently chewy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, cassis and fruitcake flavors and a spicy snap of black pepper. Slowly building tannins add shape to a long, spicy finish that strongly echoes the floral and cassis notes."
