This 2005 Saint-Émilion from Château Barde Haut stands as a testament to the exceptional terroir of the region. A wine of elegance and power, it showcases the depth and complexity for which this Bordeaux appellation is known, with the hallmark balance of fruit, tannins, and oak.

The nose opens with rich aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and cassis, complemented by subtle hints of cedar and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with velvety tannins supporting dark fruit flavors and a touch of mocha. The integration of oak is subtle yet adds layers of complexity, with a long, smooth finish that reveals delicate earthy notes and a trace of vanilla.

Ideal for pairing with classic Bordeaux dishes like roasted lamb, braised beef, or a rich pâté, this wine has the structure and aging potential to evolve beautifully in the cellar for years to come.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG The 2005 Barde-Haut is wonderfully silky and polished. Usually much more of a powerhouse, the 2005 is defined by energy, delineation and persistence. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and lavender all build with time in the glass. Give it a few hours of air, as the tannins are pretty imposing.

Robert Parker

RP Sylvie Garcin’s 2005 Barde-Haut comes from 42-plus acres of vineyard and is dominated by Merlot, with a good healthy dose of Cabernet Franc. It displays notes of chalk, crushed rock, blackcurrants and black cherries. It is a big, masculine style of wine from the Garcin family that has still not attained its plateau of maturity. In spite of the tannins, structure is not an issue with this wine, but it needs time to come around. 94
