Sancerre rosé done the old-school Chavignol way. Thomas-Labaille is a multi-generational family in the village famous for Les Monts Damnés (Claude Thomas founded the domaine in the early 1950s; Florence Thomas and Jean-Paul Labaille have led it since 1994), and L'Authentique is their direct-press Pinot Noir from estate vines averaging twenty-five years on Kimmeridgian limestone. Native-yeast fermentation in fiberglass and cement, four to six months on the lees in stainless, no malolactic, no filtration before bottling. The result is rosé as Sancerre apéritif: pale-pink, cut with the same chalky tension that runs through their whites. Made in tiny quantities, this is a serious bottle dressed as something casual—the rosé to pull out when you want Loire Pinot Noir without the weight of red wine. 2025 arrives fresh, taut, and finishes long on stone.

More about Thomas-Labaille

Jean-Paul Labaille quit his job as a civil servant to take over his father-in-law's vineyard in Chavignol, and that decision altered everything. Now he's custodian of prime old vines planted on Kimmeridgian soils, some on the steep slopes of Les Monts Damnées. Fermented native, aged on lees, bottled unfiltered, the wines emerge rich, round, layered, with a subtle nose and a finish that doesn't quit. This is what happens when ambition meets limestone and age.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Apéritif with radishes, butter, and salt. Goat cheese (obviously—Chavignol is its home), summer salads with stone fruit, grilled shrimp, herb-roasted chicken, charcuterie, salmon tartare, or a niçoise on a warm afternoon.

Tasting Profile

Pale rose-petal pink. Aromatics of wild strawberry, blood orange, pink grapefruit, and crushed limestone. Medium-bodied, dry, with intense acidity, a chalky mineral spine, and a stony, savory finish that goes on. Bright and lifted.
