The oldest Sauvignon Blanc in Gnemiz's portfolio, Peri's 45+ year-old vines drive a philosophy prioritizing complexity and mineral expression over youthful aromatics. The vineyard name suggests a historical family designation within Rosazzo; the marl-dominant Ponca soils are where terroir truly speaks. Older vines produce reduced vigor, deeper roots accessing mineral complexity, naturally lower yields concentrating juice, and greater structural complexity and aging potential. Gnemiz treats Peri with intellectual precision: whole-cluster pressing, fermentation in used barrels and wooden vats (neutral oak allowing terroir to dominate), zero malolactic fermentation preserving aromatic freshness, zero batonnage allowing natural settling, extended wood aging for texture and complexity, unfined and unfiltered, minimal sulfite. This is Sauvignon Blanc stripped of modern affectation—no new oak, no lees manipulation, no shortcuts. The 2024 vintage's heat and rainfall variability required careful harvesting; Gnemiz's omission of MLF suggests intentional preservation of aromatic freshness and natural acidity. The result: a Sauvignon with significant mineral complexity, structural presence, and the ability to evolve in the glass and in the cellar. This demonstrates what Sauvignon can be.
