100% Maria Gomes, initially fermented in stainless steel on the skins, then pressed off the skins and finishes fermentation in bottle. Sparkling skin-contact wine isn't a terribly common style, but perhaps it should be — this combines the delicate aromatics of Maria Gomes with gentle tannins and punchy flavors of orchard and citrus fruit, all kept in check by bright acidity and tons of freshness. A gentle 11.5% abv makes this a perfect bottle to share with friends or sip with cheese, charcuterie, or grilled fare.

More about Joao Pato (Duckman)

Maria Pato created the playful Duckman project (pato means duck in Portuguese) in Portugal's Bairrada region, inheriting her father Luis's legacy as a Baga advocate. She works two vineyards within twenty kilometers of the Atlantic coast, farming sustainably and making wines that feel rebellious and rooted in equal measure.
