Though they call Auckland's nested Kumeu region their home, Kumeu River does source some fruit from their Rays Road vineyard in Hawkes Bay, which makes up the majority of this village blend and, in winemaker Michael's view, adds a limestone note to the cuvee. The wine is crisp and flinty and endlessly refreshing, and it's vinified with a small portion in tank while the remainder is barrel-fermented in five-year-old French barriques.
