One of our favorite Finger Lakes producers, Forge Cellars, has great wine and a great story. Forge's own Rick Rainey will join us on the Flatiron Wine School mezzanine to share Forge's delicious wines, his own wine journey, and a report on the outstanding 2024 harvest. We'll taste Forge's dry Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc wines including several single-vineyard examples.
Born in Florida, Rick came to the Finger Lakes by way of the Philadelphia restaurant industry with the aim of someday owning a winery. For more than two decades, Rick has been involved in all aspects of the distribution business, from his role as a wine buyer for a French portfolio to managing a team of nine sales people. He naturally gravitates to working in partnership with growers and alongside the vines but also enjoys the cellar, as it is the culmination of all their hard work.
Rick says, “I was not born into this work, but frankly I have known nothing else since my early 20s. Wine has become my life and I cannot think of a greater calling, and consider myself fortunate to have a partner and a friend like Louis to help realize the potential of this area. This is truly the greatest journey someone in the world of wine could ever hope for.”
Please join us on Thursday, November 7 at 6pm as we explore this delicious lineup of Finger Lakes wines, just in time for your Thanksgiving menu planning!
Seating is limited. Tickets for this class are $30 and a $20 store credit will be issued with your purchase.
Provence is known for rosé, but in a hidden limestone amphitheatre not far from Aix, the Rougier family has been quietly making some of France's most profound wines — in all shades — for nearly 200 years.
Château Simone's wines are favorites in top restaurants in France, yet in America they’re still barely known outside of a small legion of hardcore fans — even though they’ve forever been on the cusp of being “discovered.”
2025 is about to be our most exciting year yet at Flatiron Wine School! Instructors Julia Burke, Annie Edgerton, and Ren Peir have all prepared a killer lineup of learning opportunities. Check out all class descriptions below, and bear in mind that classes do sell out.
Grower Champagne-quality sparklers are starting to pop up in unexpected locales. We've seen them appear in places you’ve heard of, like California (Ultramarine). Now we are seeing them in a place you’ve never heard of: Plešivica. That’s just a few miles southwest of Zagreb, in Croatia.
