Aberlour A'Bunadh—meaning 'the original' in Gaelic—is crafted in homage to founder James Fleming, using only traditional methods without chill filtration or other modern interventions. The spirit is aged exclusively in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts, an unusual choice in the Scotch world, resulting in a heavier, creamier single malt than most have experienced. A'Bunadh carries no age statement; instead, each bottle carries a unique batch number and is released in limited batches ranging from one to five per year, with the first batch released in 1997. At 59.6% ABV, the whisky has significantly more alcohol than typical Scotch, presenting a memorably flavorful spirit with an intense raisin character. The nose reveals distinctive fruit notes of peach, apricot, prune, and especially golden raisins, with notes of candied orange zest and bittersweet marmalade balanced by sweet spice aromas of nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon. Hints of vanilla and walnut follow. This is a cask-strength spirit of remarkable intensity and complexity—one for the serious whisky enthusiast.

Aberlour has been sitting on the Spey since 1880, working the same spot where the Lour Burn meets the river.
