Blason d'Issan is the second wine of Château d'Issan, a Third Growth estate in the Margaux appellation with roots reaching back to the 12th century. In 2016, a vintage that proved exceptional for Bordeaux, it delivers genuine complexity and pleasure. The blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon was aged with one-third new oak, striking a balance between richness and freshness. On the palate, you'll find the hallmark Margaux character: plump red and black fruits with floral aromatics, layered beneath earthy hints of cocoa, cedar, and leather. This is a wine meant to be enjoyed now or held for another decade; it has the structure to age, but the fruit-forward generosity to drink well today.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 89
"The 2016 Blason d'Issan is a plump, forward second wine from Issan. Sweet tobacco, cedar, leather and licorice add character to this supple, fruity Margaux. Drink it over the next few years." -Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

RP 88
"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Blason d'Issan features cassis, plums and earth on the nose with an undercurrent of bay leaves and tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with good concentration and length." -Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Decanter

D 94
"A lovely wine that delivers on its en primeur promise, with contemporary touches of cocoa-dusted rich damson, creamy blackberries and extremely well handled grilled oak. It has lovely lift and the fruit is buttressed neatly by well worked tannins, while the acidity gives an elegant twist. Welcoming and sculpted."

Wine Spectator

WS 91
"Light pepper and savory hints lead off in this bouncy, juicy version, with bright cassis and bitter cherry fruit forming the core. Shows a light mineral edge on the finish."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 95
"This wine has an austere structure, with firm tannins. The fruit comes through slowly, revealing an attractive black-currant flavor and ample acidity. This will be a very fine wine with time; try after 2029." -Roger Voss
