Château Roque Le Mayne was founded in 2001 by Jean-François Meynard on 15 hectares in Saint-Colombe, in the heart of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. The appellation shares the same limestone plateau as neighboring Saint-Émilion, producing similarly round, fruit-driven wines at more accessible prices. Roque Le Mayne's vineyards sit on argilo-calcareous (clay-limestone) soil that promotes complexity and balance. The blend—80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec—undergoes cold pre-fermentation maceration for 3-4 days in stainless steel, extracting color and fruit while building structure. The 2022 vintage ranks among the best for Côtes de Castillon, with vibrant fruit, balanced structure, and approachable profiles. Dense purple color gives way to red fruit and mocha aromas harmonizing with vanilla oak. An accessible introduction to Right Bank Bordeaux quality without the Saint-Émilion price tag.
