Château Sainte-Marie is a perennial overachiever in the Bordeaux Supérieur category, farming organically and focusing on old vines rooted in limestone-rich soils just beyond the prestigious appellations. Their Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from parcels where the vines average 50+ years of age.

The 2022 vintage brings all the generosity of a ripe year, but with enough freshness and minerality to keep the wine balanced and structured. Expect a plush core of black cherry, plum, and cassis, framed by savory hints of tobacco, graphite, and crushed herbs. The tannins are firm yet polished, making it easy to drink now but with enough backbone to age gracefully over the next 5–7 years.

This is everything we love about Bordeaux when it’s done right: honest, soulful, and priced for real life—not just collectors.

Pair with: grilled lamb chops, mushroom risotto, roast beef, or aged Gouda.

Entre-Deux-Mers is one of the most exciting sub-regions in Bordeaux today. Producers are starting to respect the potential of their terroirs, which has in turn elevated the quality of the wines significantly in the last decade.

One of the leading estates, Château Sainte-Marie, works organically in some of the highest hilltops in the entire Bordeaux region. They are south-facing, making it relatively easy to obtain optimum ripeness, which is not always a given in Entre-Deux-Mers.
