A great Bordeaux vintage, twenty-six years in the bottle, at a price that won't make you flinch. Clos de la Cure is a small, eighth-generation family estate (the Bouyers) on the limestone plateaus east of Saint-Emilion, and this 2000 comes from one of the region's benchmark years. It's a Merlot-led Right Bank red with Cabernet Franc, hand-harvested and traditionally raised, and after this much time it has softened into a resolved, tertiary, ready-to-pour wine. No decanting gymnastics required, though an hour open won't hurt. If you've wanted to try genuinely mature Bordeaux without the drama, this is your bottle.
