From the esteemed Ginestra vineyard, Conterno Fantino’s Vigna del Gris 2020 is a Barolo that speaks to both the power and finesse of Nebbiolo. The wine showcases the depth and complexity that this exceptional vineyard produces, revealing layers of ripe fruit, earthy notes, and subtle floral nuances as it evolves in the glass.

On the nose, the wine greets you with bold aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, paired with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. There’s a hint of spice—cinnamon and clove—that adds intrigue, along with earthy undertones of tobacco and leather that ground the wine. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with firm tannins that provide the necessary backbone for its rich fruit. The acidity is perfectly integrated, keeping the wine fresh and balanced, while the finish is long and complex, with lingering spice and a hint of mineral freshness.

Perfect with roasted meats, game, or rich pasta dishes, Vigna del Gris 2020 is a Barolo that will continue to develop with age. It’s a wine that will reward those who cellar it, but it’s also beautifully approachable with a bit of decanting. A beautiful expression of Barolo, this wine reflects the quality and tradition of Conterno Fantino, and the unique character of the Ginestra terroir.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 94
"The 2020 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris exhibits ripe fruit, dried cherry skin, plum, oak spice, medicinal cherry or cola, classic baking spice and coconut flakes. There is plenty of fruit on the palate, and it's not going anywhere soon, so you have some legroom for aging. The acidity and the tannins are balanced, and only the oak feels a little too prominent." -Robert Parker
