From the steep slopes of Pupillin, Terre du Lias is a brilliant example of how Jura Chardonnay can deliver both precision and presence. Domaine de la Borde, led by the meticulous and terroir-driven Julien Mareschal, farms biodynamically and works with minimal intervention to let each parcel speak clearly. This cuvée comes from Lias-era blue marl and limestone soils, and the result is both stony and substantial.

The 2022 vintage shows lemon peel, crisp orchard fruit, and subtle hazelnut on the nose, but what really defines the wine is its mouthfeel—tense and textural, with a savory core and a slightly saline finish. There’s no new oak here, just neutral élevage that adds quiet roundness without masking the soil's expression.

Perfect for fans of white Burgundy looking to branch out, or Jura drinkers who love their Chardonnay clean and deep. Pair with roasted poultry, alpine cheeses, or dishes with butter, cream, and herbs. Terre du Lias is not showy—but it’s quietly profound.

Julien Mareschal makes fascinating and delicious wines in one of the cultiest wine regions of all, the Jura. But ultimately, he is a farmer—just one who happens to be dedicated to the Jura's unique indigenous grapes. He’s a native, and seems to have been born to the vine, even if his family wasn't in wine: he founded Domaine de la Borde at the tender age of 23, inspired by a less-is-more philosophy.

Julien's domaine is tiny—just 5 hectares. Vines range from 7 to 77 years old. Each grape variety is planted on just the right soil, with just the right exposure. His aim: to display the Jura's terroir in blazing Technicolor. To further that goal, the vineyards have been farmed organically, with biodynamic influence, since 2012.
