From the steep slopes of Pupillin, Terre du Lias is a brilliant example of how Jura Chardonnay can deliver both precision and presence. Julien Mareschal makes fascinating and delicious wines in one of the cultiest wine regions of all, the Jura. But ultimately, he is a farmer—just one who happens to be dedicated to the Jura's unique indigenous grapes. He’s a native, and seems to have been born to the vine, even if his family wasn't in wine: he founded Domaine de la Borde at the tender age of 23, inspired by a less-is-more philosophy.

Julien's domaine is tiny—just 5 hectares. Vines range from 7 to 77 years old. Each grape variety is planted on just the right soil, with just the right exposure. His aim: to display the Jura's terroir in blazing Technicolor. To further that goal, the vineyards have been farmed organically, with biodynamic influence, since 2012.
