Burghound 97 points "Classic ruby. Quite spicy, even peppery, with plenty of floral influence on the pure and cool red berry fruit scents as the whole cluster vinification is evident as is an interesting, and unusual, note of brown sugar. The very stylish middleweight flavors possess a silky mid-palate texture while the beautifully persistent bitter cherry-inflected finish is support by both bright acidity and dense but fine-grained tannins. This very compact yet classy and harmonious effort appears to be built for mid- to even longer-term keeping. Extremely promising though I would strongly disadvise opening a bottle before at least 15 years has passed as this is presently a block of stone."
To speak of Romanée-Conti is to speak of the pinnacle of Burgundy—a wine that transcends time, place, and expectation. The 2021 vintage of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s flagship Pinot Noir embodies the soul of the vineyard, offering an expression that is both ethereal and powerful.
The nose is captivating, with layers of fresh red berries—raspberry, cherry, and a hint of strawberry—entwined with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. There’s an underlying earthiness that emerges as it breathes, bringing with it hints of truffle, tobacco, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is silky and refined, with a structure that supports its fruit without overwhelming it. The tannins are finely integrated, offering a velvety texture that builds as the wine lingers, leading to an extraordinary finish that seems to extend forever.
This is a wine meant for contemplation and indulgence. Ideal with rich, flavorful dishes like roasted game birds, foie gras, or a charcuterie board, Romanée-Conti also has the ability to age for decades, evolving and gaining further complexity as the years go by. A rare and precious treasure, DRC’s 2021 Romanée-Conti is more than a wine; it’s an experience that speaks to the heart of Burgundy’s winemaking legacy.
