Domaine de l’Horizon is all about purity and terroir, making wines with old vines, organic farming, and minimal intervention. Mar i Muntanya (“Sea and Mountain”) reflects the dramatic landscape of the Côtes Catalanes, blending Grenache and Carignan from high-altitude vineyards with Syrah from lower, warmer sites. The result? A wine that’s both fresh and structured, with an unmistakable sense of place.

Red cherry, wild strawberry, and black raspberry lead, with layers of thyme, black olive, and crushed rock adding depth. The tannins are silky but firm enough to give structure, while bright acidity keeps everything lifted. Decant for a little extra aromatic pop, then pair with grilled lamb, roasted vegetables, or anything kissed by fire and smoke. A soulful, energetic Roussillon red with real elegance.

“Mar y Muntanya” (“Sea and Mountains” in Catalan) combines 45% each Syrah and Carignan with a splash of Grenache, raised in a mix of cement vat and large oak barrel. Semi-carbonic maceration gives this wine a certain lift and fruit-driven exuberance, though its easygoing vinification does nothing to hamper its expression of stoniness and garrigue-y depth. This wine has the spirit of a Côte de Beaune rouge, showing just how distinct Calce is from its neighbor Languedoc-Roussillon. It may lack the imposing depth of L’Horizon’s more serious wines, but it’s hard to imagine one from this region that is more satisfyingly delicious.
