Domaine du Bel Air is run by Pierre Gauthier, the fifth generation of his family to farm these Bourgueil vineyards. The estate was certified organic in 2009 and now farms 15 hectares biodynamically. Bourgueil sits on the north bank of the Loire, where the tufa limestone and gravel soils of the Saint-Nicolas plateau yield structured Cabernet Francs that benefit from aging. Grand Mont is a single-vineyard parcel with vines averaging 45 years old on siliceous clay over tufa. Whole-cluster fermented using native yeasts, aged 12 months in used barrels. Gauthier's wines emphasize purity over extraction—dark fruit and graphite aromatics, medium-bodied with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Chill lightly and serve with charcuterie, roasted poultry, or aged cow's milk cheeses.

More about Domaine du Bel Air (Gauthier)

Pierre Gauthier and his son Rodolphe run one of Bourgueil's most organic-forward estates, farming Cabernet Franc the way it's meant to be done—with patience and without chemicals since going certified organic in 2000. Five generations of Gauthier know this terroir; the wines taste like proof of that knowledge. Old vines planted to the region's classic variety produce Cabernet Franc that ages beautifully and tastes like terroir, not extraction. Red Loire that actually ages, instead of asking you to drink it immediately.

Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
