Ferraton Pere et Fils, Hermitage Le Meal, 2015
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Ferraton Père et Fils is a historic Rhône house that, under the guidance of the Chapoutier family, has focused sharply on organic farming and precise terroir expression. Their Hermitage "Le Méal" is sourced from one of the appellation’s most prized lieux-dits—sun-drenched, terraced slopes of ancient alluvial soils, perfectly suited for producing Syrah with both power and finesse.
The 2015 vintage was a dream for the northern Rhône: warm but balanced, yielding wines with deep concentration and perfect natural structure. This Le Méal is rich and brooding, layered with flavors of blackberry liqueur, violet, black olive, smoked meat, and cracked pepper. The texture is dense yet finely knit, with polished tannins and a mineral lift that anchors the wine’s impressive weight.
Aged in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels, this is a Syrah that’s delicious now with a long decant but destined for greatness with extended cellaring. Over time, expect the fruit to give way to more gamey, savory, and truffled notes—classic mature Hermitage.
Pair with: dry-aged ribeye, venison stew, or just a quiet evening and a decanter.
