Ferraton Père et Fils is a historic Rhône house that, under the guidance of the Chapoutier family, has focused sharply on organic farming and precise terroir expression. Their Hermitage "Le Méal" is sourced from one of the appellation’s most prized lieux-dits—sun-drenched, terraced slopes of ancient alluvial soils, perfectly suited for producing Syrah with both power and finesse.

The 2015 vintage was a dream for the northern Rhône: warm but balanced, yielding wines with deep concentration and perfect natural structure. This Le Méal is rich and brooding, layered with flavors of blackberry liqueur, violet, black olive, smoked meat, and cracked pepper. The texture is dense yet finely knit, with polished tannins and a mineral lift that anchors the wine’s impressive weight.

Aged in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels, this is a Syrah that’s delicious now with a long decant but destined for greatness with extended cellaring. Over time, expect the fruit to give way to more gamey, savory, and truffled notes—classic mature Hermitage.

Pair with: dry-aged ribeye, venison stew, or just a quiet evening and a decanter.

Antonio Galloni

"(20% new oak) Inky purple. Dark fruit preserves, incense, candied flowers, olive and smoky Indian spices on the deeply perfumed nose. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering densely packed black and blue fruit flavors and suave spicecake and mineral accents. Opens up very slowly with aeration and finishes very long and sweet, featuring lingering dark berry and floral pastille notes and smooth, slow-building tannins." -Josh Raynolds

"Cedar and crème de cassis mark the nose of the 2015 Ermitage Le Méal. This is a big, powerful, intense bottle of Syrah, packed with dark fruit and layers of crushed stones and pencil shavings and buoyed by hints of savory spice. Full-bodied and tannic yet velvety and rich, this is a wine that should last 30 years." -Joe Czerwinski

"Sunny aroma – wide and deep. Profound richness, bold tannins, thorough and precise. Class in a glass."

Wine Spectator

WS 95
"Rich and polished, with alluring raspberry, boysenberry and fig reduction flavors gliding through, seamlessly entwined with smoldering charcoal, warm licorice snap and fruitcake notes. The fruit flows through the finish, showing a lingering anise echo. Best from 2020 through 2034."
