Aged Albariño is rare. Bottled-aged Albariño—intentionally held, not forgotten—is rarer still. Forjas del Salnés, led by Rodrigo Méndez and rooted in the cool, granite-laced soils of Rías Baixas, is one of the few producers who treat Albariño not just as a fresh coastal white, but as a vessel for longevity and grace.

Ma Luisa Lázaro 2005 shows what’s possible. Nearly 20 years on, the youthful citrus and salt have deepened into layers of beeswax, chamomile, sea breeze, and quiet spice. There’s still tension on the palate—acidity that hums rather than snaps—and a structure that carries the wine through a finish that feels more mineral than fruity.
