Il Verro, Terre del Volturno Pallagrello Nero, 2021
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Il Verro is part of a small group of growers reviving Pallagrello Nero, one of Campania’s ancient native grapes once beloved by Bourbon kings and nearly lost to history. From the volcanic foothills of Terre del Volturno, Il Verro farms organically and works with minimal intervention to let this unique terroir and variety speak clearly.
The 2021 vintage shows Pallagrello Nero’s distinctive charm: aromas of wild blackberries, black pepper, herbs, and dusty earth, layered over a vibrant, medium-bodied frame. There’s a soft, natural roundness to the fruit, balanced by bright acidity and a fine, gently rustic tannic grip.
It feels both ancient and fresh—soulful and savory, with an energy that makes it an incredible food wine and a true window into southern Italy’s deep viticultural roots.
Pair with: roasted pork, grilled eggplant, cacciatore-style chicken, or aged Pecorino.
