Insula Vinus, Azores Tinto 'Chao de Sal', 2023
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Grown on the windswept, lava-strewn soils of Pico Island in the Azores, Chão de Sal is unlike any other red you’ve had. A field blend of local grapes (including Aragonês, Castelão, and perhaps a few unnamed old vines), it’s made by Insula Vinus with a minimal-intervention approach that lets the island’s dramatic terroir do all the talking. The 2023 vintage is especially vivid—high-toned, savory, and full of wild Atlantic energy.
Expect notes of crunchy red currant, sour cherry, and cranberry, backed by salty minerality, wild herbs, and a faint smoky, volcanic edge. It’s light-bodied, super fresh, and slightly rustic in the best way—like a Beaujolais that’s been dropped on a lava field. Serve it with a chill and pair with grilled fish, charcuterie, or simply sunshine and sea breeze. A true island wine—raw, honest, and alive.
