Jean-François Malsert was a devoted wine bar owner before founding Domaine de l'Iserand in 2011 on his grandfather's vineyard in the Northern Rhône. Four hectares of Syrah on granite and mica-schist, farmed organically, fermented whole-cluster, aged in amphorae and demi-muids. His VdF Syrah at around $20 offers great Northern Rhône terroir at a price that makes sense.
