Kobayashi’s Cabernet Franc 2022 is a striking expression of the grape—ripe and generous, but lifted and savory, too. Sourced from top vineyard sites in Washington State, it’s fermented with native yeasts and aged in mostly neutral barrels, allowing the spice, herbs, and dark fruit to shine without oak getting in the way.

Expect notes of black raspberry, green peppercorn, crushed violets, and graphite, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. It’s Cab Franc that feels both clean and wild—no excess, just clarity, energy, and soul.

Drink it slightly cool with grilled meats, lentils, or mushroom-heavy dishes. A perfect bottle for lovers of Loire reds who want a little more fruit, or Napa fans looking for something more detailed.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 96
"A totally classic bouquet of mint leaf, bell pepper and crushed raspberries meets a beautiful complement of white smoke as the 2022 Cabernet Franc blossoms in the glass. This washes across the palate with a contrasting blend of sweet spices and tart wild berry fruits, taking on a tactile mineral crunch and depths of exotic spice toward the close. Silky within, yet grippy and sinewy through the finish, this finishes impossibly long and staining." -Eric Guido

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

The fruit for the 2022 Kobayashi Cabernet Franc comes from two sites within the Columbia Valley: Blue Mountain Vineyard, a cooler Walla Walla vineyard planted in the foothills of the Blue Mountains on windblown loess soils, and Red Willow, a high-elevation site in Yakima Valley planted on an east-facing parcel with sandy loam soils. The fruit was fermented with ambient yeasts in stainless steel and concrete before aging for 22 months in a 1,200L French oak foudre. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
