La Spinetta, Barbaresco Vursu Vigneto Starderi, 2014 [NET]
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
La Spinetta’s Vursu series highlights its top Barbaresco crus, and Starderi, located in Neive, is the boldest of the bunch. Known for its clay and calcareous soils, Vigneto Starderi produces Nebbiolo with concentration, spice, and depth. The 2014 vintage was cooler and more challenging across Piedmont, but careful vineyard work and rigorous selection allowed La Spinetta to produce a wine of graceful ripeness and refined structure.
Aged 22 months in French oak (mostly used, with some new), the wine opens with aromas of black cherry, licorice, rose petal, crushed mint, and sweet spice. The palate is full and layered, with rich tannins that have begun to soften, allowing the dark fruit and balsamic notes to glide into a long, polished finish.
While still age-worthy, Starderi 2014 is drinking beautifully now with a decant, and pairs well with braised meats, wild mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses. It’s a great example of how La Spinetta bridges tradition and modernity—Barbaresco with muscle, but also poise.
