From the heart of Sicily, this Muscatedda delivers a stunning snapshot of the island’s terroir. Bright citrus—lemon and lime—are complemented by ripe stone fruit, including peach and apricot, alongside a floral hint that lifts the aromas and adds a touch of sweetness.

The wine is fresh and crisp on the palate, with lively acidity that keeps the fruit flavors vibrant. The minerality adds depth and structure, balancing the fruitiness with a subtle, almost saline edge. The finish is long and clean, with lingering citrus notes that leave a refreshing impression.

This wine is perfect for pairing with seafood, light pasta dishes, or fresh salads. While it’s delightful now, its freshness suggests it will continue to evolve over time, revealing more layers as it ages.

Sicily has some of the finest terroir in Italy. Mount Etna is no longer up and coming; it’s as big as it gets. Our favorite wines are allocated and the prices have gone through the roof.

And it isn’t just Etna. Arianna Occhipinti has gone from cult biodynamic figure to true wine superstar, growing Nero d’Avola on sandy limestone soils rather than Nerello on volcanic soils. But not all Sicily's great terroirs have blown up yet.

The Noto Valley is south of Etna (like Occhipinti) and just a few miles inland from the port of Avola—as in, Nero d’Avola. This is Nero's ancient home, or so say locals, anyway. Fifteen years ago farmers, the Messinas of Marabino winery, bought a vineyard of old, alberello impupato vines (tree-like old vines) of Nero. The clay-limestone soils are a patchwork of colors, from bright white to dark black.

The family devoted themselves to biodynamic farming and planted new vines in other great sites. They make wines without interventions (natural fermentations, no additives, minimal sulfur).

"The 2022 Muscatedda is exotic and floral. Mint nuances complement a tropical citrus flourish. It is soft-textured with juicy orchard fruits and candied lime traces that add contrast. This finishes with medium length, leaving a staining of minerals and kiwi notes that slowly fade." -Eric Guido
