Gorgeous, perfectly dialed in dolcetto with a fresh-berried nose and a palate that is both bright and delectable, like a berry compote. It is airy and just lightly, ever-so-sinely-tannic and the kind of wine you'd want to drink outside on a patio with easy-going Italian food -- or with more refined Italian cuisine

We would call this producer under-the-radar except that we're starting to see his wines in some of the city's best restaurants. Taste this and you'll see why that makes so much sense.

More about Nicholas Altare

Nicholas Altare's family has grown Dolcetto in Dogliani for five generations. He founded his own winery in 2015 with 1,500 bottles of pure obsession—spontaneous fermentation, no temperature control, no clarification. His two hectares in San Luigi are young but serious. Watch him; this is just the beginning.
