Produttori del Barbaresco is one of Piedmont’s greatest cooperatives, producing wines that rival the region’s top estates. Their flagship Barbaresco is a blend of fruit from multiple crus, offering a complete and balanced expression of the appellation. The 2020 vintage, shaped by a warm yet steady growing season, delivers exceptional purity and structure—approachable young but built for aging.

This is Nebbiolo in its most refined form—bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and dried rose petals unfold over layers of anise, leather, and crushed herbs. The tannins are firm yet polished, supported by vibrant acidity that gives the wine lift and length. Aged in large Slavonian oak casks, it maintains freshness while developing the depth and complexity that define great Barbaresco.

The Produttori is Barbaresco’s benchmark producer. A huge share of the village’s best farmers, representing virtually all of its best terroirs, bring their fruit to the co-op. It is hard to be admitted to the co-op. There is a waiting list; only a few make it. Once you are in, the rules are strict. You don’t get to hold back any wine for your own labels. This isn’t a region where growers ship off their second best to the co-op and put their pride and joy in their own luxury bottles. You have to meet strict quality controls, of course. The Produttori is only devoted to quality-minded farmers with incredible terroir giving their all. The winemaking is likewise next level. Aldo Vacca, the co-op’s general manager, is one of the wine world’s greatest artists. If you ever have the opportunity to meet and taste with him, take it; he is also one of the wine world’s great communicators.

"The 2020 Barbaresco is a lovely, harmonious wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Forward fruit and soft curves are perhaps a bit uncharacteristic for young Barbaresco but that also make the wine very enjoyable. Juicy red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, spice, cedar, mint and tobacco all meld together in the glass. Classicists will probably prefer other vintages, but it's hard not to like the 2020 for its charming, effusive personality.
