Quinta do Javali, Clos Fonte do Santo 'Stone Vineyard' Douro Tinto, 2019
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Quinta do Javali is one of the Douro’s most compelling small-scale producers, embracing organic and biodynamic farming to craft wines that feel deeply connected to their dramatic landscape. Clos Fonte do Santo 'Stone Vineyard' is a single-site bottling from a wild, high-altitude vineyard planted on pure granite—a stark contrast to the Douro’s more common schist soils. The result is a wine of precision and energy, a departure from the region’s more opulent, oak-driven styles.
The 2019 Douro Tinto is a traditional vinha velha (old-vine field blend), where indigenous varieties—likely including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Amarela—are interplanted and harvested together. Fermentation with native yeasts and aging in neutral vessels preserve the vineyard’s mineral intensity, allowing layers of dark fruit, wild herbs, and crushed stone to emerge naturally. The granite influence brings a firm, almost lifted structure, with fine tannins and a long, earthy finish.
This is a wine that thrives at the table—pair it with grilled lamb, braised game, or hearty vegetable stews to fully appreciate its depth. While already showing remarkable balance, its tension and structure suggest it will age beautifully for another decade or more, evolving into something even more complex and deeply rooted in place.
