Clusel-Roch, Cote Rotie Vialliere, 2015
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Viallière is one of the northernmost and steepest crus in Côte-Rôtie, known for giving Syrah a more lifted, aromatic profile—think violets, olives, and fine minerality over brute power. Clusel-Roch, a benchmark domaine that works organically and ferments with stems, leans into that elegance, and the result in 2015 is pure Côte-Rôtie magic.
This vintage brings ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, but what really sings is the savory depth—smoked meat, cracked pepper, tapenade, and dried flowers. It’s mid-weight but intense, with silky tannins and a long, mineral finish. There’s polish here, but nothing overdone—just Syrah that speaks fluently in the dialect of its slope.
Drinking beautifully now with a decant, but easily cellar-worthy for another 10+ years. Pair it with lamb, duck, or anything that deserves something soulful in the glass.
