Just In: Another Beautiful Batch of Chablis from Moreau-Naudet
These wines are always concentrated and textural, among the most characterful to be found in Chablis.
—Kristaps Karklins, the Wine Advocate
We’ve got the new release of Moreau-Naudet’s baby Chablis. But “baby” doesn’t do the wines justice. These are great and complete wines, faithful expressions of their terroir. While there’s no doubt that Moreau-Naudet’s wines reach their “apogee” (as Karklins also writes) with their 1er Cru bottlings, great bottles of Foréts and Montée de Tonerre aren’t exactly rare.
But in a way, these are the rarer treats. Who else makes a Petit Chablis that is at once texturally and aromatically complex, and also so straight-up delicious? A “mere” Chablis village that balances tangy fruit and precise, flinty minerality?
Virginie Naudet shows all her wines the same love and commitment, so it’s no wonder the Petit Chablis and village wine share the same sense of breeding. Same organic, super-fastidious farming. Same long elevage — refusing to rush the wines to market requires patience, time and space, but pays off in the texture and complexity Karklins loves.
Domaine Moreau-Naudet, Petit Chablis, 2023 $44.99
“Sourced from a large three-hectare vineyard in the plateau between Courgis and Beines, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Petit Chablis exhibits notes of peach, orange zest and honeysuckle. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and textural yet bright, with lively acidity.” (Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate)
Domaine Moreau-Naudet, Chablis, 2023 $51.99
“Derived from three different locations, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Village opens in the glass to reveal aromas of grapefruit zest, acacia and flint. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, tangy and textural, concluding with a precise, delicately sapid finish. Similarly to the Petit Chablis, it’s vinified entirely in tank.” (Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate)
