Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 93
"The 2018 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a pretty wine. Gracious and light in body, it shows the modest structure of the year, and also fewer vineyard signatures than is typical for this wine. It is a very, very good Barolo that just lacks the stuffing and complexity of the very best years. Sweet floral and spice overtones on the finish convey quite a bit of Rionda sensuality." -Vinous

"Only made in the best vintages, the Oddero 2018 Barolo Riserva Vignarionda reveals dark plum, licorice, tar, smoke, camphor ash and sweet cherry. Vignarionda absolutely embraces the power and complexity of Serralunga d'Alba, especially in this warm vintage. In fact, it almost goes overboard with a tightness and astringency to the tannins that will require more time in bottle, and even then, it might not ever completely integrate. Production is limited to 3,500 bottles." -Robert Parker

"Intensely fragrant, the 2018 Vignarionda Riserva from Oddero has almost intoxicating aromas of wild red berry, dog rose, culinary spice and camphor. On the full-bodied, firmly structured palate, notes of ground pepper, blood orange, coffee bean and crushed mint accent a red cherry core. Tight, close-grained tannins leave a clenching, grippy close. Drink 2028–2034. Abv: 14.5%"

What importer Polaner Selections has to say about this wine...

Vineyard
Sourced from their .77 hectare parcel at the crest of the historic Rionda vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba.
Soil
Layers of marl, limestone, sandstone and sand. The soil is rich in microelements, such as potassium, boron, manganese and magnesium; quite high is the active limestone content, equal to 13.58%, the highest figure of the entire Barolo area.
Viticulture
Hand-harvested in early October
Vinification
Fermented and macerated for 17 days in stainless steel.
Aging
Aged for forty months in large Austrian oak. Bottled in December, then spends about 5 years in bottle in the cellar before release. The family decided that they will only release this wine 10 years after the harvest date.
