Domaine Ogereau is one of the Loire Valley’s most exciting Chenin producers, known for both classic expressions and site-specific bottlings that dig deep into Anjou’s diverse geology. Vent de Spilite is a prime example—a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc grown on spilite, a rare volcanic rock that brings a unique mineral signature to the wine.

The 2022 Vent de Spilite dials the minerality and intensity up to 11. From a single site planted in the 1950s and loaded with Spilite — a fine-grained, igneous rock derived from oceanic basalt — this is a deeply savory, mineral Chenin that continues to evolve in the glass. It's ripe and rich, but the weight is beautifully offset by focused acidity and a crunchy, mineral edge. Seriously gorgeous stuff.

"The 2022 Anjou Blanc Vent de Spilite is full of tension from start to finish, as if someone is hugging your palate really tightly. It has a lot of concentration due to the drought, which yielded concentrated berries (what's more, it's a windy site with shallow soil, exacerbating the drought conditions). Time in bottle will be necessary to allow its grip to loosen. I enjoy the grunty nature of the wine, as well as its ripe apple and spiced fruit, but it's not ready to drink." -Rebecca Gibb MW

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
