Winter Session: January-March 2026
Tuesday, January 27: Champagne Deep Dive (taught by taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)
Difficulty level: Deep Dive
Flatiron Wine Educator Annie Edgerton, DWSET, returns with her popular Champagne Deep Dive—an immersive exploration of the world’s most beloved bubbles. We’ll journey through the grapes, sub-regions, and terroirs that shape Champagne’s character and make it one of the most iconic sips ever; unravel the nuances of aging, dosage, and production techniques; and compare house styles with the expressive individuality of grower-producers. From steely Blanc de Blancs to charming Rosé, classic blends to single-village gems, you’ll gain a richer understanding of what makes Champagne so endlessly fascinating—and so irresistibly delicious.
Join us on Tuesday, January 27 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event. This event is included in your six-class pass, or you can get tickets to this individual class here.
Tuesday, February 3: Rustic Reds Revival: Untamed Beauty (taught by taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Join Flatiron Wine Educator Annie Edgerton, DWSET, for a deep dive into reds that embrace authenticity over polish—wines with soul, story, and just the right amount of edge. Together we’ll explore what “rustic” really means: not rough or unrefined, but evocative, textured, and rooted in tradition. These are wines that balance classical elegance with a wild, untamed heart, offering vitality in the glass. Along the way, we’ll uncover the threads that connect them—earth-driven profiles, classic sensibilities, and a devotion to place—as well as the quirks that set each one apart. We’ll taste through a lineup including a lifted, savory Jura, an old-school Tempranillo, a naturally made Australian charmer, and more enthralling delights.
Join us on Tuesday, February 3 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event. This event is included in your six-class pass, or you can get tickets to this individual class here.
Tuesday, February 10: Empire State Elegance (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Flatiron Wine Educator Annie Edgerton, DWSET, will take you on a home-state journey through New York’s most exciting (and surprisingly diverse!) regions. From Long Island’s coastal elegance to the Niagara Escarpment’s cool-climate character and the Finger Lakes’ world-class precision, you’ll explore a state that’s no longer an up-and-comer, but a leader. With a history stretching from pre-Prohibition distilling and early hybrid plantings to today’s thriving production, New York’s drinks culture reflects centuries of innovation shaped by both land and legacy. We’ll taste through dynamic wines, ciders, vermouths, and more—a delicious snapshot of New York’s diverse bounty—without leaving Manhattan.

Tuesday, February 17: Finding the Words for Wine (taught by Julia Burke Freytsis, DWSET)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Julia Burke Freytsis, DWSET, has spent the last 18 years writing about and talking about wine, and she believes wine's most intimidating stumbling block is its special vocabulary. What does it mean when a wine is "austere?" What about tasting notes of "pencil shavings" or "pear drop"? How can we read between the lines on a shelf tag or professional review? If you've settled into some favorite regions and wine styles, but still find yourself lacking the words to explain your tastes and describe the wines in front of you, this class is for you. Julia will walk you through a delicious tasting while helping you interpret common wine terms, build your nose-to-memory connection, and develop a wine language that is meaningful to you.
We hope you can join us on Tuesday, February 17 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event! This event is included in your six-class pass, or you can get tickets to this individual class here.
Tuesday, February 24: Why Does My Wine Taste Like This? (taught by Ren Peir, WSETIII)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Much of what you taste in a glass of wine is inherent to the terroir, weather, and grapes. But there’s also so much in the glass that is a result of deliberate winemaking decisions. In this class, Ren Peir, WSETIII, will guide you in an exploration of various winemaking techniques and processes and explain how they affect the final taste of the wine. We'll blind taste wines with unique flavor profiles resulting from various winemaking techniques and processes. If you're looking to build your tasting skills, this class is for you!
We hope you can join us on Tuesday, February 24 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event. This event is included in your six-class pass, or you can get tickets to this individual class here.
Tuesday, March 3: Cab Franc Forever (taught by Julia Burke Freytsis, DWSET)
Difficulty level: Deep Dive
Julia Burke Freytsis, DWSET, has been a Cabernet Franc lover since day one of her wine industry career nearly 20 years ago. For the very first time, she's leaning into the bias and putting her all-time favorite grape in the Flatiron Wine School spotlight with a killer lineup. It often gets sidelined into Daniel Baldwin territory, when really it's the Stellan Skarsgård to Cabernet Sauvignon's Alexander, and it's time we talked about it.
We'll look at the ageworthy power of Cab Franc, its complex layers, and its beautiful structure, as well as its ability to express terroir around the world. If you love Cab Franc, this class is for you. And if you aren't yet convinced, Julia is up to the challenge.
We hope you can join us on Tuesday, March 3 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this special event. This event is included in your six-class pass, or you can get tickets to this individual class here.
