"The 2005 Barolo Vigneto Monvigliero has put on quite a bit of weight over the last few years. The distinctive, whole cluster-inflected aromatics that are such a big part of the wine's signatures are very much in evidence. Blood orange, white pepper, exotic spices and crushed flowers are front and center. Beautifully layered through to the finish, the 2005 is gorgeous today. Perhaps because of the cooler vintage, some of the greener, more vegetal notes from the whole clusters are especially in evidence here. Because of that, I would not recommend the 2005 as a starting point for readers just getting to know the estate's Barolos. Burlotto's Monvigliero remains one of the most singular wines being made in Barolo today." -Antonio Galloni
