"The 2005 Barolo Ciabot Manzoni is certainly pleasing, although the new oak has never really integrated and remains quite prominent. At the same time, though, there is no question the wine has held up well. The classic Ciabot Manzoni notes - dark fruit, menthol, licorice and wild flowers - are nicely delineated. The overall impression is of a wine that is frozen in time. I suspect the 2005 will remain at its present, undeveloped state for a number of years, and then one day will suddenly be over the hill. For that reason, I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later." -Antonio Galloni

"Wonderful plum and blackberry notes, with Indian spices. Full-bodied, with powerful, chewy tannins and a dense, rich depth of fruit. A long, solid and powerful wine. Beautiful. Best after 2013."
