Sourced from the iconic Cannubi vineyard, Giacomo Fenocchio’s 2020 Barolo is a stunning representation of this prestigious Barolo cru. Known for its historical significance and ideal terroir, Cannubi produces wines with incredible depth and complexity, showcasing the full potential of Nebbiolo when it is cultivated in the right conditions.

The 2020 vintage opens with aromas of ripe dark fruit—blackberry, cherry—and floral notes of rose and violet, typical of Barolo. Subtle earthy undertones of tobacco, truffle, and a hint of spice add layers of complexity to the nose. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with firm yet fine tannins that provide structure, while the bright acidity ensures balance and freshness. The finish is long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and an earthy mineral note that reflects the unique terroir of Cannubi.

This Barolo pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, or truffle-based dishes, making it an excellent choice for rich, savory meals. While already expressive, its structure suggests it will continue to evolve and improve with age, making it an ideal candidate for cellaring. Giacomo Fenocchio’s Barolo Cannubi 2020 offers a remarkable expression of Nebbiolo, combining power, elegance, and complexity in every sip.

Claudio Fenocchio (son of Giacomo) is one of those unsung heroes who makes traditionally-styled Barolo but remains in the shadows of the superstars like Rinaldi or Mascarello. He is just as dedicated to his farming and he makes wine in the same non-interventionist fashion, aging his wines entirely in large Slavonian casks.

What stands out about Fenocchio is his terroir precision. Unlike Bartolo Mascarello, where Maria Teresa blends all her grapes into a single Barolo cuvée, Fenocchio likes to produce cru-specific wines. Tasting through his line-up, we are always stunned at how the characteristic of each vineyard jumps out.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2020 Barolo Cannubi is a sensual, elegant wine. Sweet dried red cherry, tobacco, incense, leather and dried herbs grace this gentle, caressing Barolo. All the elements are nicely balanced. Best of all, the 2020 will drink well right out of the gate." -Vinous

"A wine that will make you pause and take note as aromas of dried cherries and warmed strawberries waft out of the glass, note of incense, wild thyme, bay leaf and dried autumn leaves encapsulate the lucky few who find this wine. Refined and elegant the palate is like a hug you did know you needed. It is full of plush warm notes of ripe wild berries, sweet and savory spices, leather all bound together as group by polished tannins that are poised and stately."
