Raúl Pérez is surely one of the most significant figures in modern Spanish wine. For those of us who fell in love with Bierzo and his magical, elegant, terroir-driven wines early on, this class will need no further introduction. Raúl is joining us on the mezzanine on Thursday, October 9 to guide us through his wine, his story, and his philosophy when it comes to stewarding his home region.

About Raúl:
Born to a generational winemaking family in a tiny village in Bierzo-- formerly a backwater, now a hotbed of quality and talent, no small thanks to his efforts-- he has risen to star status in Spain and abroad for his inimitably soulful wines, genially collaborative spirit, and insatiable curiosity. The rollcall of estates where he was the original enologist reads like a true Who’s Who (Guímaro, Algueira, Bernabeleva, and Forjas del Salnés, to name just a few), and an amazing slate of rising young stars have passed through his bodega’s doors. This self-described 'compulsive' winemaker's fingerprint is seen all over Spain and even into Portugal, France, and South Africa, but through it all, he continues turning out some of the most compelling wines in existence from his home turf of Bierzo, having recently been fêted in the pages of Wine Advocate with only the second 100-point cuvée in the appellation's history.

The cost of this seminar is $50 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Seating is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available to attendees only. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Thursday, October 9 for this special evening.

Astounding Assrytiko from Ancient Vines: Karamolegos's Santorini Trio

Artemis Karamolegos, born and raised on the island, is carrying on his family’s legacy at his eponymous winery. The focus is, without a doubt, Assyrtiko in all its glory and potential. Second Bite at the Apple: Picq Chablis 2022s

Now, if you're new to these newsletters, you might not know what all the fuss is about. The TL;DR is that the Picq family is among Chablis' great producers -- but one that has no grand cru vineyards, no blockbuster collectibles, and that therefore has stayed outside the field of vision of international collectors.
