What is this wine?
Château Hyot is a family-owned estate in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, a Right Bank appellation just east of Saint-Émilion. The vineyards are planted primarily to Merlot, with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on clay-limestone soils that echo those of its famous neighbor. The 2019 vintage, an excellent year across Bordeaux, gave wines of ripeness, balance, and freshness.

Why get this wine?
Castillon is one of Bordeaux’s best-kept secrets, delivering Saint-Émilion character without the price tag. Château Hyot’s Rouge combines ripe fruit, supple tannins, and terroir-driven authenticity, making it a terrific everyday Bordeaux. The 2019 vintage, already accessible but capable of aging, adds extra appeal.

What does this wine taste like?
Medium-bodied, with black cherry, plum, and cassis supported by notes of licorice, tobacco, and a hint of spice. Smooth tannins and lively acidity give balance and length.
