Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 93
"A more elegant and airier nose reflects a suggestion of exotic spice nuances and in particular a wisp of jasmine tea on the ripe yet cool aromas of mostly red berries. The precise and markedly stony medium weight flavors possess a highly refined texture thanks to the fine-grained but dense tannins shaping the dusty and youthfully austere finish. This will also need a few years of forbearance as it's presently quite compact."

"The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a nicely detailed bouquet more black fruit than red pressed iris flower and just a faint oyster shell note. The palate is finely crafted with pliant tannins good tension though just missing a little concentration on the finish. A capable Chambolle-Musigny that may well meliorate with a couple of years on the clock." -Vinous

"This voluptuous wine showcases a deep ruby hue and a ripe dark mulberry fruit with notes of earth and smoke. The texture has more density and less acidity than the village-level wines and the ripe fruit and firm tannins carry the wine to a lingering finish. It is a blend of Drouhin family-owned vines in Combottes and Les Plants blended with Les Borniques Les Fuées Les Haut Doix and Feusselottes. The grapes are destemmed and fermented on native yeasts before ageing over two winters in cask (20% new)."

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
