"Chapelot" is one of the Climats that make up the famous 1er Cru, Montée de Tonnerre. While the "Bas de Chapelot" is at the bottom of the site, outside of the Premier Cru on the old riverbed, it's a site Edouard knew very well from working for his father over the years and he earmarked it early on as one he wanted for his little personal domaine . The soils have a darker clay (though still light by Burgundian standards) and the wine has a minerality and complexity that is almost flamboyant enough to merit 1er Cru status.

"This also displays an ample amount of mineral reduction on the aromas of brine, algae and white orchard fruit. There is even better density to the sappy and palate soaking medium-bodied flavors that also flash focused power on the stony, moderately austere and beautifully persistent finale. This is also excellent." (Burghound, 90-92)

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92-94
"The 2022 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot underwent partial tressage in the vineyard this year, so the Vocorets could compare. They found the fruit ripened earlier with more intense aromas. These will be bottled separately. It has a lovely peachy, nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with touches of grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish. Simply a mouthwatering prospect – difficult to believe this is not a Premier Cru.." -Neal Martin

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
