Château Bernadotte is a little Haut-Medoc gem that proves great value can be found in Bordeaux – if you know where to look.
The vineyards lie just outside of Pauillac, not far from those of Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Here the soils are a mix of gravel, clay and sand. Bernadotte certainly has a Pauillac-esque quality to it: flavors of rich red cherry and spicy tobacco wrapped in velveteen tannins. But unlike top Pauillac wines (like Lafite or Latour), Bernadotte doesn't need decades before it's ready to drink.
