Philippe Jouan represents the fifth generation of his family making Pinot Noir in Morey-Saint-Denis. He joined his father Henri at Domaine Henri et Philippe Jouan in 2004 and is now assisted by his own son. The family continues using a 100-year-old wooden press used by his father's grandfather. This small estate farms only 3 hectares across 10 parcels, selling wines below-market—authentic, rustic Burgundy at accessible prices. All wines are bottled, corked, and labeled by hand, unfined and unfiltered. The Vieilles Vignes designation comes from old-vine parcels averaging 60 years, with some plantings from the 1920s, 1940s, and 1950s. Morey-Saint-Denis soils are limestone and clay-limestone from the Middle Jurassic. Expect full, bright ruby color with black fruits (blackcurrant, bilberry), pitted cherries, rose petal, and lily aromas. Fine-boned tannins and poised finish. The 2023 offers generous ripeness with crystalline acidity. Authentic village Burgundy from a family dedicated to tradition.

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!Ā
