The Dagueneau cuvée with the best origin story. Buisson Renard sits mid-slope on the southwest side of Saint-Andelain — a parcel of clay and flint (silex), with a greater proportion of clay at the lower end of the slope, a distinct expression from the pure Silex cuvée — and it was originally called Buisson Menard until a French wine writer botched the name; Didier was so amused (or so the legend goes) that he kept the misprint. The wine itself is among the most concentrated, structured expressions of Sauvignon Blanc on earth — barrel-fermented and aged in mostly neutral 450- and 600-liter casks, built like a white Burgundy. 2014 was a classical Loire vintage, and eleven years on, this is in a beautiful window: citrus and stone fruit deepening into honey and lanolin, the famous Dagueneau cut intact. Sauvignon as serious wine.

Wine Spectator

95 points

"This has a rich hint, with notes of paraffin and lemon curd, but stays pure and racy, showing honeysuckle, white asparagus, flint and sel gris flavors that remain in lockstep from start to finish. Ridiculously long. Stunning."

More about Didier Dagueneau

A legend who redefined Pouilly-Fumé on his own terms. Dagueneau was the enfant terrible of the Loire, publicly criticizing his neighbors and obsessing over detail until his untimely death in 2008. His son Louis-Benjamin now carries the torch with the same audacity and talent, proving that Sauvignon Blanc from this region can be world-class when you refuse to compromise. These wines have attitude.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
