“Misturado” is Envínate doing what they do best—reviving an ancient, mixed-vineyard tradition with a natural hand and a sharp sense of place. It comes from old vines in Ribeira Sacra, where Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera, Palomino, Doña Blanca, and others are all harvested and co-fermented together, just as they would’ve been generations ago.

The 2023 vintage is bright, herbal, and crunchy, with notes of red currant, cranberry, wildflowers, and smoky slate. It’s fermented with whole clusters, aged in old wood, and bottled with minimal sulfur, so it’s got a little wild edge, but it’s clean and focused. Light-bodied, low alcohol, and high energy, it drinks like the love child of Loire red and alpine rosé—with a twist of Galicia.

Serve it slightly chilled, pair it with anything from grilled veggies to jamón, and don’t overthink it. Just let it move.

Just a couple of years ago the wines of Envinate were very, very off the radar. Like everything in the world of delicious, naturally made wines, that has changed! Now we eagerly anticipate the next release, get just a case or less of each cuvée, and then watch them disappear in the blink of an eye.

For those unfamiliar, the group of four friends behind the project have nailed a locals' perspective on growing areas that the world is just coming to appreciate. Between Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands, they bottle clear expressions of the vineyards with which they work. Having started Envinate as a consultancy while in enology school, the friends set out to enrich the communities within these historically neglected areas. By splitting up and living in each of these regions, they have been able to foster relationships with older generations of growers and farmers allowing them to identify the best vineyard sites with a collective understanding beyond their experience.

With a strong technical education, The Four craft wines of precision and clarity. Never manipulated, never doctored, and a lack of chemicals in the vineyard, these wines are liquid art, a purists expression of terrior. They honor not only the region from which they come, but also the local stewards who have cared for these vineyards, often for generations.

"The sample I tasted of the 2023 Misturado was a blend of the two 228-liter barrels where the wine was completing its élevage without added sulfur. It's a lighter wine, with more white grapes (close to 50% versus the 30% from 2022), and the wine has a lighter color, a very fresh nose of red berries and herbs, very tasty and fine-boned. There will be some 600 bottles, which they expect to fill in November 2024. There is a big jump in quality from 2022 to 2023 in this wine." -Luis Gutiérrez
