Vosne-Romanee is the most storied red-wine village in Burgundy, home to Romanee-Conti and its legendary neighbors, and even the village-level wines carry a spicy, exotic complexity you don't find elsewhere. This one comes from a small Flagey-Echezeaux domaine that flew under the radar for years supplying grapes to bigger names, and now bottles pedigreed old-vine fruit under its own label. The 2019 is the riper, more opulent of the two Vosne vintages we're offering: a warm, low-yield year that packed in concentration and plush, savory-spiced depth. It's sleek and generous now, firming to a structured finish that rewards a little patience. A sensual, layered Pinot from hallowed ground.

"The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, from 80-year-old vines, is made with 15% whole bunch and aged in 50% new oak. Very pure on the nose of small black cherries, blueberry and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a finely judged seam of acidity and quite an intense black cherry and boysenberry finish. Lovely silky texture here, although maybe it does not quite deliver the complexity of the very best vintages that I have tasted." —Neal Martin
