J.C. Clare is G.D. Vajra’s joyful ode to young Nebbiolo, made in a style that recalls how the grape was once enjoyed—fresh, early, and unadorned. Named after Jefferson C. Clare, an imaginary British wine merchant invented for the label, the wine is a playful yet sincere reflection of the Nebbiolo grape’s lighter side.
Harvested from estate vineyards in Barolo and sometimes blended with a touch of Freisa or Dolcetto (depending on the vintage), this wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, with an early spring release. There’s no oak, no extraction, no pretense—just bright, lifted fruit and the natural perfume that makes Nebbiolo so compelling.
The 2024 vintage is feather-light and aromatic, with notes of raspberry, cranberry, rose petal, and mint, framed by gentle tannins and a crunchy, thirst-quenching finish. Serve it slightly chilled—it’s the anti-Barolo in all the best ways.
Perfect for picnics, aperitivo, or pairing with lighter fare. This is serious wine made with a smile.
