Vacqueyras can lean broad and burly, but Font Sarade’s Les Hauts de la Ponche plays a more refined hand. Sourced from higher-elevation plots at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this 2023 bottling captures both the warmth of the southern Rhône and the freshness that elevation and limestone can bring.

It’s a Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend, classic in its makeup, but it wears its structure lightly. There’s plenty of ripe black fruit, sure—but it’s laced with garrigue, crushed rock, and that telltale southern spice. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and the overall balance leans more savory than sweet, more lift than weight.

Font Sarade farms sustainably and ferments with native yeasts, letting the land do the talking. And in a warm vintage like 2023, this approach pays off—producing a wine that’s vibrant, grounded, and made for a long table full of grilled lamb, ratatouille, or rosemary-scented anything.
