Domaine Henri Gouges is a Nuits-Saint-Georges institution, the estate that helped pioneer estate-bottling in Burgundy, and Les Saint-Georges is the village's most famous vineyard, the Premier Cru that gave Nuits its hyphenated name and long deserves Grand Cru status. This is Pinot Noir grown on the limestone slope at the top of the cru, made in Gouges's classic, structured, sometimes sternly traditional style. The 2002 was a fine Burgundy vintage and this bottle is now mature, in the savory, secondary stretch of its life.  A historic wine from a benchmark address.
