Romain Guiberteau took over his family's estate in 1996, choosing winemaking over law school. His great-grandfather Clément Manguin founded it in the early 1900s; great-uncle Robert expanded with the iconic Clos des Guichaux in 1954. Les Chapudaises is 2 hectares of Cabernet Franc planted in 1948 in Bizay, within half a kilometer of Saumur's prized hill of Brézé. Silty-sand over tuffeau limestone. Organic certified (AB) since 2007 after transitioning from 2000. 100% destemmed, indigenous yeast. Romain trained with Nady Foucault at Clos Rougeard.
