Quincy is one of the Loire's best-kept secrets—a tiny appellation of just two hundred and seventy hectares along the Cher River, southwest of Sancerre, where sandy, gravelly soils produce Sauvignon Blanc of unusual fruit-forward warmth. Vincent Siret, an agricultural engineer who returned to his family's land in 2006, farms forty-five-year-old vines here and harvests slightly overripe to capture that distinctive Quincy richness. The 2022 season was brutal—July hail decimated much of the appellation, and summer temperatures exceeded forty degrees—but what survived was of remarkable quality. White florals, energetic citrus, and a herbal crunch define a wine that is fresh, cleansing, and entirely drinkable. At this price, it may be the best introduction to the Upper Loire's underdog appellation.
